Datong and the Yungang Grottos

Because of the traffic jam we were late getting to Datong and the Yungang grottoes filled with statues carved into the rocks. There are 252 caves and 51,000 statues representing Buddhism. They were built in the 5th and 6th century.
The entry into the area is beautiful.

Michael Wilcox is the educator for the trip and has much to share in his lectures.

We did not have much time but hurried through and saw as much as we could.

We hurried back so we could catch our first train. Woohoo.

It felt good to relax on the train as it carried us towards Mongolia and Russia.

Food on the train was actually very good. This is going to be a lot of fun.
