Cinque Terre Italy...so fun until the train quit running!

Our next stop in Italy was La Spezia. From there we took a train to the beautiful area called Cinque Terre. It is five little villages hanging on cliffs above the sea. Normally people walk between them. Not long ago that was the only way you could travel there. We could not because it was pouring rain. Really pouring. Ana and Lily decided to stay on the ship for the day so we took the ferry over to La Spezia. We rode the train to the furthest villiage and looked around.
Everything is beautiful even in the rain.
This is worth clicking on. It is a rock carving of a man holding up the cliff by the sea.
I liked this building. It was a good year.
It was hard to see the area very well because of the clouds and rain. Someday we want to go back and walk it.
We made our way through the villages. Just hopped on the train to the next village. The trains run frequently. So we thought.
All the villages are literally on the cliffs.
We grabbed a quick lunch that was so yummy. I got a Focaccia with Olives and Rosemary. I found this recipe link and am going to make some. We had to stand in a doorway to eat it was raining so hard.

One quick shot without our umbrellas.
I can think of some comments for this fountain picture but am going to refrain.

We had a little adventure. We were in the third city when the train station kept announcing that the train was running late. We had to be back on board by 7. Soon it was 5:30. We realized that there was not going to be a train. The rain had put an end to the train running. The rule is if you are not on the boat they leave without you. Our problem was Ana and Lily were there and it looked like we were not going to make it back. As in spend the night. No buses, taxis, boats or trains. We asked around offering to pay someone to take us back. No luck.  Finally a lady said...My cousin Guido has a car and might. She called him, he came and drove us. We made it with about 5 minutes to spare. He drove us over the mountain in the rain, along cliffs. He was a very nice man and would only take a little money. So thank you cousin Guido. You saved our trip.
