We are sitting in the Atlanta airport. It is Sunday morning about 7 am. Yesterday afternoon we boarded our plane at 2:30 to fly home. It was supposed to be a three hour flight. (thoughts of Gilligan's Island and the three hour tour are coming to mind). Our plane circled Atlanta for a while until it had to divert to Jacksonville Florida to refuel. There was a big storm in Atlanta and the airport was closed. Then we took off again only to circle Atlanta some more. We finally landed only to hear from the pilot that there were no available gates. So we sat on the runway for a long time. At 10:30 pm we finally were allowed to get off of the plane. (8 hours on this plane that was supposed to be 3). We had an easy time getting through customs. Then came the long lines to recheck your bags. I will skip lots of the sad details. We made it to our room at 1 am. We even got in the taxi and got stuck in a long traffic stop on the freeway. We had to be up at 5 to be to the airport for the next flight. We went through security and the people were very unpleasant. The lady threw some of my things away that I have traveled all over South America with. She treated me like I was a three years old. What a funny thing but I cried. I am tired. I cannot wait to get back home but we still have two flights ahead of us yet.
So I am looking through my photos from the trip reminding myself why we do this. The pictures show Jeff teaching intubation to a group of medical people. The others show parents in the newborn intensive care nursery with their new babies.
Thanks to everyone that supports us. We love you. Also Happy Mothers Day to all!!!

wow, glad you finally made it home. just remember, you are probably getting bonus points in heaven for doing a good work for these people. sometimes it's the littlest things that make us cry like 3 year olds. you probably earned a good cry! happy mothers day!
Oh dear friend, I'm soooooooooo sorry that you and Jeff had such a difficult time getting home. It was great serving with you in the D.R. and seeing how well you handle all of the many little (and big) frustrations. Happy Mothers Day Mary! At church today the speaker spoke of the two great qualities of Motherhood---Love and Lead. You do both so well. Thanks dear friends. Joy, Sandra
