The River Jordan and a swim in the Dead Sea

Once again we climbed into the rather old plane to fly back to Amman. After arrival in Amman we hopped on the bus and headed to the Jordan River. It was a bit of a hike to the site that Christ was baptized. There were a lot of people there. We saw multiple groups being baptized by different religions. There were three classifications of sites according to Michael Wilcox. An A site was absolutely the spot that the history took place on. A B site was probably the site and a C site was one that they were not sure where it happened but you are very close. The baptism site was a C site. Apparently he was baptised in this area but the exact spot is not known. It was a nice place and the river still runs through here. 

 There are a couple of pretty churches that have recently been built in the area. 

 Next stop is the Dead Sea. They told us you bob around like a cork. I was pretty sure I would be the first person to drop like a rock. We checked it out and were sceptical. Everyone kept saying "just sit back". I finally did and sure enough my feet popped right out. You could cross your ankles and fold your arms and stay perfectly on top of the water. Very cool. The Dead Sea is not just salty but full of minerals. My skin felt so nice for a day or too after the dip in the Dead Sea. 

 There is a lovely resort near the beach. 

 Amman is a very nice city. All of the buildings are white. Jordan is a nice peaceful country in the midst of many countries in turmoil. They have many refugees from countries at war. Jordan has a King who does good things for his country. One of the things I most wanted to see on this trip is Petra in Jordan. More to come on that in a later post. It is pretty cool to drive and see camels all over the place. Maybe I should go on a camel ride while here.
