This morning I was watching an infomercial for "Flower Power"...a CD set of 60's music. I own a couple of these sets already. I was in a happy place listening to the music and realized that I have been to a lot of concerts in my life. We love to go to them. So I decided to post all that I can remember. I have tried over the years (since I married Jeff) to keep all ticket stubs of everything we go to so I have lots of these stubs still) Here goes:
- Donny Osmond & Oliver (went with Mom and Beth)
- Iron Butterfly (remember In-a-gadda-da-vida)
- Grand Funk Railroad (Minneapolis)
- America
- Ike & Tina Turner (Jeff says he was at this same concert)
- Alice Cooper (at the Salt Flats)
- Three Dog Night (he says he was here too)
- Crosby, Stills, Nash (so sorry no Young)
- Tom Jones
- Beach Boys
- Elton John
- Donny & Marie
- KC & the Sunshine Band
- The Guess Who
- The Who (on Lake Michigan with Beth in Milwaukee)
- Kenny Rogers (with the kids)
- Neil Diamond (twice)
- Paul Revere and the Raiders
- Shania Twain
- Richie Havens
- Garth Brooks (three times)
- ZZ Top
- The Rolling Stones (SLC and Chicago)
- Seal
- Burt Bacharach
- Erasure (with the kids)
- Ann Murry
- Neil Sedaka
- Little River Band
- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (bar in Sun Valley) (and in Jackson Hole)
- Amy Grant & Vince Gill
- Martina McBride
- Alison Kraus (in Jackson Hole)
- 1964 ( a Beatles knock off that do a great job)
- Alan Jackson
- Sawyer Brown (twice)
- Herman's Hermits (two days after I had my appendix out)
- Kurt Bestor
- Mormon Taberncale Choir
- The Dali Lama (not a concert but in my ticket box)
- David Cassidy (Las Vegas)
- Marvin Goldstein
- Peter Brienholdt
- Billy Ray Cyrus
- The Judds
- The Jetts
- Air Supply
- I know I have forgotten some. I will blog them as I remember them.
Now you will all ask what was my favorite concert of all time. I have to say it is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in Sun Valley. We were in the Mint (Bruce Willis bar). They played to a tiny group and we danced to every song. Jeff actually likes to dance. (sorry girls, he really is a dream of a guy) It was fun, romantic and a bit magical. We had not planned to go, just dropped in. Jeff says his favorite was the Rolling Stones. Not quite the same atmosphere. We were the only ones there not stoned.
My second choice is Neil Diamond. After all these years he still loves to sing and you can tell.
My least favorite? Definitely ZZ Top. I love some of their music but it was hardly recognizable.
Who do I still want to see? I would say, Bruce Springstein and maybe Van Morrison and of course Eric Clapton singing Layla, my all time favorite song.. The oldies are still the best.
After you play the clip below it will let you choose from other versions. A Layla fest.
I just added another version. Jeff and I looked at all of them and the second one is our favorite. Look who all is playing with him! WOW. Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Steve Winwood. Which version do you like the best? You will have to take a little time to check them out as it is a long song. But well worth it. Do I get the award for the longest post?

Wish I could ear the music. My computer is not picking this up. I didn't relize you are such a music buff and have gone to so many concerts. You need to open up a bite when we're walking each morning. My neighbor and walking partner and I know so little. Keep up the good tunes.
How could you forget the Erasure Concert!. That is one of my highlights as a teen. Kenny Rogers was a fun concert. I have loved all the Garth Brooks concerts, we even had to scalp tickets once. I like the second Layla
Wow! You have been to a lot of concerts! I used to save all of my tickets stubs from everything I did, I still have them, but I haven't been saving them in recent years. I think you may have just inspired me to keep them again!
I love both of the Layla clips. The first one because of the awesome guitar solo and he is just so dang handsome the older he gets! The second one is great because of the old-schoolness of it and of course all of the legends playing with him!
That was a fun post! Thanks!
mother mary. the closet classic rock genius. who knew?
you really have been to a lot of concerts. and i thought all you listened to was anne murray....
i might try this on my blog.
Oh memories....did you remember we got to meet Donny after the concert, I even got a kiss on the cheek from him. Concerts and music really do inspire memories. If you ever get tickets to Eric C, be sure to count me in. I have tickets to Alan Jackson in Feb, I can hardly wait. I have a pretty long list of Concerts too. You forgot Spirit, you and Patty Rhoades got invited to a party with the band after that one. Back in the day when we went to concerts there were no assigned seats. Everyone just crowded in anywhere they could get to. Fun days.
The Jets! Now that is classic rock!
mom, you are pretty darn cool!
i agree that erasure was a highlight. and 7th row at kenny rogers...classic.
