Relaxing in Kauai

This swan is right off of our deck. We got one of the nicest apartments here I think. It is not right by the beach but quiet, by waterfalls and by a little pond with swans. There are hammocks, grills and an out of the way pool with nobody in or around it right by our apartment. It is actually prettier and quieter than if we were by the beach. Love it! Tonight we ate outside on our deck. We grilled salmon on the big grills just by our building. We went into Lahui and bought groceries today so we could eat some of our meals in our room.

I love jungles! I wanted to swing from these vines but if I slipped I would have gotten my white pants dirty so I refrained.

We drove up to the North Shore today to check out the big waves. They really were huge. We walked down the beach. It was a perfect temperature. We rented a little PT Cruiser convertible and had fun just driving around today with the top down. We did sleep in this morning. It was late when we got here last night, about 11:30. The plane ride was not much fun. Very, very turbulent the entire 6 hours. When we took off the pilot warned us how rough it would be. We had to fly up the coast past San Fransisco because of the Santa Ana winds before heading to Hawaii. The only thing that kept us distracted from the rough air was the movie. It was Hairspray. I had always wanted to see it and it was great. Do you ever wonder how rough it has to get for the wings to break off of the plane?

Jeff checking out the beach. The Na Pali coast is behind him. This is the end of the road up to the North side of the Island. Very beautiful. In the 60's a hippie clan lived in this area in tree houses. It is also where they filmed part of Jurassic Park.
