One world, one skirt

OK, day three is done. Pink blouse did the trick. One more day to go.

Some of you seemed kind of freaked out about the gun in the last post. Well check out the weapons on this guy. Click on the picture and check out the one he is carrying on his side. Can someone tell us what it is? Jeff thinks it is tear gas. You are never out of site of a gun here. Today when we got back to the Hotel they had a police dog that was sniffing all incoming luggage. Not sure if they were looking for drugs or bombs. Cute dog however.

Here is another picture from the bus ride of a little hacienda along the way. I think these places are very beautiful. They take good care of their homes as humble as they are.

Medellin to Pereira Columbia

Today was another long, as in seven hour bus ride through the Columbian mountains. It was very beautiful. We are now in Pereira which is a big city with not much in the line of attractions. It was destroyed a few years back by a big earthquake. In the morning we begin teaching again. The weather is nice, not too hot, lots of rain showers. My hair is misbehaving due to the humidity. I better go look through my stuff and see what will go with the black skirt tomorrow.

Chicos black skirt day 2

Day two in the black skirt is now in the history books. I chose a white blouse with a baby blue scarf. Nobody stopped me and said "what are you thinking, didn't you just wear that yesterday?" Tomorrow a break in styles. We are on the bus at 9 am. So it will be a more casual day. But Thursday I will be slipping back into the black skirt so stay tuned. Maybe I should share my ideas with Sarah Palin. Or maybe she should share her wardrobe with me. I don't know what the fuss is about. I could drop that much money in a shopping spree if I had the funds. Just ask Jeff.

We discovered today that the stylets for the ET tubes were the wrong size. So Jeff headed out to find a solution. He came back with copper wire and sat down and made about 20 of the new copper stylets. We may be onto something. A stylish stylet. I think he is taking orders.

We ended the first course with a real bang. The closing ceremonies are typically a fun ending. However this one went a little tense. Some of the participants thought they should get more. A little shouting and accusing started. I got nervous and went to watch over all of our belongings. Fortunately it passed. Hope to never be in that situation again.

It rained hard again tonight. We went to an Italian place to eat some great food. It was pouring rain. We were in an outdoors dining room under a tent like roof. The sound of the rain was very loud and nice and the music was good. Lots of oldies. It was one of those times that you soak it in. We were with really nice people, eating good food, listening to great music and the atmosphere was what you think only happens in movies. Everyone worked really hard the last two days and it was a perfect evening.

Click on the picture and notice the tension in the room below.

One week... one skirt

OK I have been talking about it for a couple of trips now. So this is the trip. I decided packing and clothes when you travel are a pain. So I decided to try to do one week with one skirt. A basic black skirt. I should do a Chico's ad for this. So here is the deal. I will wear the same skirt everyday (4) that I have to wear Sunday clothes. Just so you know I threw in two extra skirts in case I could not do this. But I am up to the challenge. Today I chose a white blouse with embroidery and a black vest. FYI, so far I have worn only one pair of black pants on the trip also. Maybe I will make that a deal also. Oh boy think of how easy the next trip will be.

Check tonight for today's black skirt outfit!

Jeff teaching how to help a baby breathe that is having problems at birth.

Our friends...Dr. Kevin Lash and his wife Christie. We caught this rainbow just in time. It has been raining a lot. Big thunderstorms and heavy rain. Should make our drive tomorrow interesting as they tend to have lots of landslides on the mountain roads when it rains.

Tonight I am headed to the store with all of the cute quilted shoes again.

Medellin

On Saturday we made the trip back down to Columbia. We were joined by another Doctor in Salt Lake. We arrived last night in Bogota. This morning we caught a flight to Medellin where we will be teaching on Monday and Tuesday. It is a beautiful city in a mountain valley. We worked on getting ready for the course tomorrow and then hired a taxi to show us the sights. The picture above was the centerpiece on our table this morning. I thought it was so cute, with the little pineapple.

Flying over Columbia you can see so many greenhouses where they grow all of the roses we buy at home. It is very lush and green every where here. They are hanging Christmas lights every where. Most are flower oriented. It would be fun to see it all lit up. The picture below is a huge decoration on an intersection. We are off to dinner...more tomorrow. We are safe and well!
