Visiting Santo Domingo

Today we spent the day seeing the sights of Santo Domingo. On the way to the city we stopped to see Kip and Arden Hansen's boat. They are the Humanitarian Missionaries in the Dominican Republic. We love working with them. They are doing so many great things for the people here. They live on their Catamaran.

Next we went into the city and visited the Temple grounds. A pleasant warm rain was falling. From there we went to see the tomb of Christopher Columbus. There is a debate if he is buried here or in Spain. Fun to see any way. They have the anchor from the Santa Maria.

The pcture of the statue we found and loved it as it represented what we do.

Have a good day...Jeff & Mary

Teach followed by beach

Today we finished up the first NRT course. It was held in a typical hospital. Very hot and not too clean. But it went well.

This evening we visited a beach across the street. We walked out on a pier and saw tropical fish, an eel and a Manta ray.

The people who took the course are very nice. We met a young man here on Sunday who is from Haiti. He was in Devn Cornish mission. He cannot go home and get his birth certificate, so he is kind of caught in a state of not being able to go to school or do anything else. I included his picture, he is a vey nice young man with great faith.

We work with some great people and we love them all.

Teaching NRT in the DR

This is the little branch we attended yesterday. With us is Dr. Devn Cornish, our Medical Director who was recently released as a Mission President here.
The girls are the Young Women of the Branch. The tall one is the advisor for the group. Beautiful aren't they. What a sweet group of people.
Today we taught all day and had a good experience. The team is wonderful and the students are also. Tonight we will check out the pool. All is well...check in with us tomorrow.

Dominican Republic

We arrived in the Dominican Republic yesterday afternoon. We flew all night Friday night. We flew close to the big storms in the midwest that caused all the tornadoes. We saw some spectacular lightening storms that lasted for hundreds of miles.
We went to Church today in a little branch that meets in a rented house. The people were very nice. It was a very poor part of town. I will add some pictures tomorrow. Tonight three of us women walked and then parked ourselves on some cool swinging "beds" out by the pool. It was so peaceful and pleasant out. Geckos ran along the top of the awning made out of sticks.
We will start to teach tomorrow in the Hospital in San Pedro. This town is famous for producing the best baseball players in the world including Sammy Sosa.
We love the team we are here with. It should be a good course!
